For your consideration, a brief set of statistics which provide a glance at our bloated prison system:
-The United States has a prison population of 2.3 million, far more than any other nation and nearly 25% of the world’s total inmate population.
-751 out of 100,000 Americans are behind bars, compared with 627 for Russia, 151 for [...]

Sen. Sanders on Colbert

Some of you may have missed it, but Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont was the guest on the Colbert Report the other night. The Senator spoke on issues near and dear to us Impatient Sufferers, particularly education and health care. Watch the video and think about what we could achieve if we elected more congressmen [...]

It comes as no surprise that 61 percent of legal-age respondents in a survey said they’d be to voting by text message. It’s less of a surprise that 80 percent of teens said that if they could vote, they’d prefer to do so by text message. The question I wanted to see asked: Would you [...]

by: Mischa G. April 16, 2008 Comments: None.

We briefly noted that VT congressman Peter Welch was leading the efforts to make sure that contractors working overseas didn’t get exempted from rules designed to fight fraud. Welch fought the good fight and it seems he won. Bully for him.

Obey (my misreading of copyright law)

Many of you have seen the work of Shepard Fairey. His Andre the Giant images are iconic in underground art. He seems to be a better artist than copyright lawyer though. He recently sent a cease and desist letter to an artist who has taken to parodying his style. This is exceptionally ironic as Fairey [...]

Readers of Gawker blogs Idolator, Gridskipper, and Wonkette might find some changes in the next few weeks. Publisher Nick Denton announced that he has sold the blogs as of this morning. He says that Gawker’s remaining 12 blogs comprise 97 percent of the company’s page views, and an even greater percentage of the revenue. I [...]
