About Impatient Sufferance
In 1776, a state of patient sufferance finally became untenable. In the Declaration of Independence, America shared candidly and in detail why it choose to separate itself from the crown. Even while undertaking a revolution, a decent respect for the opinions of mankind remained. It was this respect for others opinions that the founding fathers hoped the American axiom would be built upon.
The fundamental belief that every human being is created equal, and as such is equally entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, is the underpinning of this nation. The power of the government flows from the consent of its citizens, and that same consent can be revoked if the government ceases to act in the interests of the people. This common understanding is the bond that we all share.
Today we find ourselves in a state of Impatient Sufferance as the respect for other’s opinions erodes. Through examining all of our options, even those that seem difficult to achieve, we hope to come to a greater understanding of our nation and its place in the world. We hope to find the common threads which band us together, and also better understand what forces divide us — and why. We hope to examine the way we live as a society, as well as how we can move closer to our populist roots.
We will voice our opinions through words and art. But beyond that, we will strive just as much to share the realities which have shaped those opinions and why they have led us to our thoughts. We will explore our manners of interaction, in politics as well as the marketplace and social life. We will examine the modern age with the understanding that on the most fundamental levels, we are all in the same boat and we need to find a way to come to agreement on the direction in which to point our rudder. The founding fathers gave us a chart to guide us. We hope that through explorations of reality and a decent respect for the opinions of mankind to add to that chart and plot a course from our reality towards our aspirations.
To end our Impatient Sufferance, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
