Building the Party: A Platform
Impatient Sufferance is here, as much as anything, to rethink the Democratic Party. We hope that our conversation here will lead us towards a new party platform, more in line with the American Axiom, that common foundation of beliefs on which the nation was founded.
As we examine the world around us we are hoping to expand our understanding of the ways the issues our country faces intertwine and find the way forward. We believe strongly in the concept of social democracy, particularly in light of the long reign of extreme conservatism that has built a relatively unhampered capitalist system. It is time to reimagine what we could be.
Our platform will be an optimistic platform. We will at times propose radical changes which seem unlikely to occur in our current political climate. Our rational will be, instead, policies which seem achievable from a mechanical standpoint. We believe that if a policy can be enacted and will have positive results, the political will can be generated to enact the change. As Al Gore says, political will is a renewable resource.
We will continue to examine the problems we face as a society in our Issues features, but we also will begin to propose a new set of issues and ideals to guide the Democratic Party. Piece by piece we will outline broad policies that we hope would lead us towards the best America we can be.
Our Platform will not be complete over night. The feedback of our fellow Impatient Sufferers will guide us as we rethink our party. Let not our greatest failure be one of imagination, so please, do let us know where we fall short or where we aspire for too much.
Our platform will be presented as an ongoing series of featured posts. Eventually we hope to compile the entire platform into a single living document, our blueprint for a return to our shared ideals.
