We almost didn’t make it to today

A recent study suggests that drought nearly wiped out our species about 70,000 years ago. At the time, humans lived in isolated areas in Africa, and could have numbered as few as 2,000. “Truly an epic drama, written in our DNA,” says Spencer Wells, National Geographic Society explorer in residence.
